Infinity Dance Sport Center
4428 Convoy St. Suite 288, San Diego, CA 92111 (map) (Calendar)
(858) 292-1300

A major new studio by Yolanda Vargas. The largest dance studio in San Diego, 3900 square feet with one pole, plus two classrooms 250 and 500 square feet.

Milongas

Friday evening - Discontinued as of July 17, 2010? Not every Friday, check Calendar - 8pm-"all night" - Joe Chepetsky's Tangralaa...! "Traditional Tandas and Electronic Tandas: which inspires you to dance and that you have grown to love." I attended this venue for the first time at Infinity on May 14, 2010. Billed two days earlier as "Beautiful Tango Music: Traditional Tangralaa ...! Tandas:  Lots of Bandoneon. Lots of violin. Lots of danceable music that inspires you." The dozen or so songs that I stayed for was all Nuevo (music with percussion) - "Traditional Tangralaa" does not mean "traditional music". I myself prefer Golden Age, perhaps because I'm still fairly new to tango and am continuing exploring / learning the depth of Golden Age. None-the-less, this venue should do OK, as the other Milongas (Linda Garwood @ Dance For 2, Sin Nombre @ Patti Well's Dancetime, Whirl, etc.) tend to focus on Golden Age, leaving a void for those who want mostly Nuevo. 35-40 people were there with a few more women than men.

Pattie Wells' Dancetime Center
1255 West Morena Blvd., San Diego, CA 92110 (map) (Calendar)
(619) 275-3533

Studio. Nice ballroom dance floor on the second floor, 1300 square feet; large classroom dance floor on the first floor. Tango instruction held on either the first or second floors.

Milonga - Hosted by Milonga Sin Nombre.

Friday evening
Admission $8 ($5 full time students with ID)
Argentine Tango. The music is played in the traditional tanda format (music of the same variety [Salon Tango, Milonga or Vals] played in groups of three, sometimes four separated by a Cortina). The average skill level is intermediate to advanced in the early going and advances during the course of evening. Beverages and snacks served. This venue has a loyal following and is doing quite well. Visited June 4, 2010 - a very good turnout, perhaps 70 dancers with a wide range of experience.
